Vote 2008: New Hampshire Primaries

Surprise surprise. Things are getting very exciting. I was not expecting Hilary to take New Hampshire at all. But oddly enough I’m kinda disappointed she won.

Perplexing indeed considering I was disappointed that Obama won in Iowa. I’m flip flopping all over the place.

But so is everyone else. This election is crazy, so many options, and its still almost anyone’s game. Or…

Oz: Man never have I been more excited about an election
andrewjthomas: i know, its so crazy
andrewjthomas: the field is so wide open
andrewjthomas: anything can happen
andrewjthomas: well, the field is wide open to rich people mostly bought and sold by corporations and the industrial military complex
andrewjthomas: but still
Oz: lol

So what about that crying? I didn’t see the interview where Hilary started the water works but everyone keeps asking me if I think that helped her win New Hampshire. I refuse to believe that it helped. Because crying on TV could have hurt her as much as it might have aided her victory. So it’s moot to me. I proudly stand on my decisions based on the candidates’ actual views and issues and not on drama, not on personality and I turn a deaf ear to gossip.

But as I mentioned in my Iowa post, I’m going to have to consider those factors soon. We have to pick a Democratic nominee that will sway the moderates, the undecided, the independents. Putting Obama up against McCain, or any other decent Republican (those are fictional right?) against a Democrat that appears to liberal or too …. inexperienced will lose us (the Democrats) the House. And that ultimately is what I DON’T want.

I don’t see Obama as the liberal candidate in any way. He’s almost as conservative as Clinton. I think we have to put up an anti-war candidate that has mass appeal, especially with independents. That’s definitely not Clinton.

I think you’re right that Obama could lose against a semi-lucid Republican like McCain. But as for Hillary’s tears, I think it did help her, and for good reason: It revealed what she’s been trying to cover all this time–that she’s human. Read my post “The Tear Shed Round the World.”

@marcy’s: Good point, I forgot about a lot of people viewed her as an uncaring human being. I just wish I knew if those tears were heartfelt, pushed by a publicist or by a campaign advisor. Oh well.

On the contrary, I think the tears showed that Hilary was TOO human. I would love to see a woman in office, but how is that going to sway the people who wanted a strong, capable woman to be strong for her country. Is she going to start crying when she can’t decide how to handle foreign policy or American healthcare? That’s what irritates me about the whole thing.

I think Obama is lying about some policies. Like being against gay marriage. I’m banking that he’ll reverse on that once elected. Among some other decisions.

And I’m all for those kind of lies.
