My, that was a long road trip.

What do I recommend for long road trips?

Audio books!

Lots and lots of audio books. Because when you’re trucking 90MPH between El Paso and Austin (the posted limit is 80MPH, btw) at 2am in the morning, you aren’t going to find your favorite NPR station.

I picked up The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, and it was superb.

I know audio books are quite expensive, but they are quite helpful, I found myself doing 12-14 hour stretches of drives without my eyes sinking at all. Now if there was just a way to get more out of that arm and leg that I gave to purchase the thing.

Had I been thinking, I’d have coughed up my collection of audio stories, ripped to MP3 from audio books on tape. The stories of Roger Zelazny, read by Rene Auberjonois, are among the collection.

I’ll have to burn you a CD one of these days.

Now for a little nostalgia. Sad cold season.
